LIFELONG LEARNINGWhat is the main goal of learning? To create a better understanding of oneself and the environment as well as reaching the highest state of self-realization and actualization. On the contrary, traditional education seldom creates such opportunities that help an individual reach that level.

Lifelong learning is the desire to reach outside the bounds of traditional education. In order to succeed, the only way is to develop an aptitude for learning in a rapidly shifting environment. As an educator, lifelong learning is the goal of each teacher, the potential of which they want to see in their pupils. To rear lifelong learners, you need to prove that you yourself are an achiever who believes in learning for a lifetime.

With that being said, the process of lifelong learning should be a wonderful experience that keeps growing as we age. This effort is based on 4 main pillars that surround learning the hows, dos, best and interaction with others. As far as the benefits of becoming a lifelong learner are concerned, it can be assured that the individual develops the tendency of communicating across a multitude of communities and cultures and becomes a tangible force in resolving conflicts.

Just because we can become lifelong learners, doesn’t mean we can’t encourage the up-and-coming learners to become lesson bearers for life. In a classroom setting, a teacher can encourage these 6 powerful ways of encouraging lifelong learning among their students.

1. Become A Role Model

Imitating the adults is something what children are hardwired to do, which is why children are likely to copy the behavior you exhibit in class. Show them that you’re an adult and still at a learning stage. It will help them realize that the struggle to learn is real and that it helps in personal development.

You can take the example of Walt Disney, who strove with self-learned drawing through correspondence school and continued to learn throughout his life. The key takeaway? To grow and learn to inspire others if you have pinpointed your focus on being a lifelong learner.

2. Praise Often Than Criticizing

To keep encouraging lifelong learning in your students, you must practice praising often than criticizing. Even if the circumstances or results don’t turn out to be what you aimed or hoped for, complimenting the learners is a great way to lift up their spirit.

Moreover, making them feel better about their effort will put them on the track to achieve more than their effort.
You can use encouraging phrases like,

  • That’s amazing! Don’t you see how better you’ve become!
  • See, if you practice more, you’ll be perfect in no time!
  • Don’t say that you’ve failed, you’ve discovered more strategies and ways of becoming successful.
  • Got it now? You were stuck and now you’ve finally figured how you can help yourself.

Practising these sort of comments will definitely portray you as a well-wisher for your learners and will expand their mindset about how they can make their life better.

3. Transform The Meaning Of Failure

As children, we don’t usually realize that failure is nothing more than an illusionary mental construct that restricts us in many ways. As adults, we realize it sometimes the hard way, which is why we need to ingrain the true definition of failure in the minds of our children.

Lifelong learners can transform the traditional meaning of failure by presenting it as an opportunity with patience and relevant skills.

4. Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Instead of talking, show your learners that you’re capable of using every resource for learning. From verbal to non-verbal tools and techniques to going outdoors for field trips, you can get out-of-the-box solutions for your students and introduce the concepts that spark interest in their minds.

5. Develop A Culture Of Positive Communication

The main part of being a lifelong learner is to remain positive throughout the entire journey. Though negativity may cross your path at certain times, you reserve the Blanche to choose your path for learning.

However, you must control your thoughts and intentions so they may lead to parallel actions. Try to restrict negative talk in class and use logic and encouraging ways to steer away from negativity.

6. Learning Keeps Going On After School

Children think that school is the only place where you get 24/7 essay help to learn new things and it all ends when school is over. Such isn’t the case in reality; learning becomes a burden when it’s forced. The best thing to do here is to make learning a fun experience that is enjoyed by all.

Summary

From day one of our existence, we keep learning through the tides of time and what life throws at us. Being conscious of where you stand in life is the point of pondering, and with that notion in effect, our journey to a long life learning becomes clearer and easier.
